This guide is distributed by the NJ Business Action Center, NJ Economic Development Authority and Choose New Jersey at trade shows, conferences and events throughout the year.

The Trenton Urban Enterprise Zone advertised on page 18 of the current edition and on their website at www.NJEDG.com.

The following is a letter sent from Sen. Lautenberg to J.R. Capasso in the City’s Economic Development office. It contains instructions to apply for business loans. There are Spanish speaking representatives available as well.

I am writing because you have corresponded with me in the past, and I want to provide you with a critical update on Federal Government disaster assistance that is available for New Jersey residents harmed by Hurricane Irene. If you yourself have not suffered damage, please forward this information to any family or friends who may need assistance.

Yesterday, President Obama issued a Major Disaster Declaration for damage resulting from Hurricane Irene in our state, which makes many New Jersey residents eligible for a number of Federal disaster relief programs. These programs offer grants and loans to individuals and loans to businesses.

The Federal Government has set up a website that allows people to apply online for assistance: http://www.disasterassistance.gov.

This website consolidates the application process across several Federal agencies, including FEMA and the Small Business Administration. The website also reduces the number of forms you will ultimately have to fill out, shortens the time it takes to apply and allows you to check the progress of your applications online.

If you want to apply by phone rather than the Internet, you can call 1-800-621-FEMA (1-800-621-3362).

While the damage suffered across New Jersey is devastating, I know our state can rebound quickly. Federal aid will play a crucial role in our recovery, so please take advantage of the resources available. Please don’t hesitate to contact me anytime regarding this or other issues.

Sincerely,

Frank R. Lautenberg
US Senator

Help Underway for South Trenton Family Whose Home Collapsed

Trenton, NJ. Jason Florez’s first day as a freshman in college was scheduled for today. But after his family’s rented home on Ferry St. collapsed, due to heavy flooding, he lost all his clothes, books and parents’ car—displacing his entire family and delaying entry into college.

In an effort to help the Florez family and their neighbors several Trenton businesses and civic groups have joined forces to advocate for expeditious relocation aid from FEMA and the City of Trenton as well as to host a fundraiser. “It is imperative that FEMA and the City of Trenton provide families, whose homes are inhabitable, with relocation information and assistance without delay” said Carlos Avila.

According to the New Jersey Legal Service’s website it warns that, “Cities and towns do not like to pay relocation assistance benefits, even to people who are eligible for them. Displaced tenants are often told that they are not eligible for these benefits when they clearly should receive them”.

In addition, the group along with Trenton Social Restaurant will host a fundraiser this Friday, September 9, 2011 from 5-8pm to help the Florez and other families in the Ferry St. area hit hardest by the effects of Hurricane Irene. “We’re just doing our part to help our neighbors”, said Trenton Social manager TC Nelson who will donate the space and buffet. Suggested donations for the buffet are $15 per person, $25 for couples and $10 for students.

In line with its mission to support a safe and prosperous community for residents of South Trenton, Caty Poole President of STARS said, “The South Trenton Area Residents’ Society is happy to back efforts to come to the aide of South Ward citizens who’ve suffered great loss as a result of Hurricane Irene”.

The aiding partners in this effort include: The Rescue Mission, Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund, South Trenton Area Residents Society, Trenton Social Restaurant, First Baptists Church of Trenton and the International Charismatic Mission Church, others are also welcome to join the effort.
For The Trentonian

TRENTON — On Tuesday, August 3, local towns and neighborhoods will join thousands of communities across America in celebration of the 27th annual National Night Out.

The event is intended to raise awareness for drug and crime prevention and develop and strengthen police-community relationships.

The following list, which includes some events in Burlington County and in Bucks County, Pa., is not a complete list of all events. Check back over the next couple of days as additional locations will be publicized.

Typically, if a township is hosting only one event, it will be held at the police station, town hall or some other central municipal location, and for the most part, events begin sometime around 6 p.m.

TRENTON

Events will be held in dozens of neighborhoods from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. In 2009, as many as 75 such gatherings were held in the city. Participants will enjoy cookouts, block parties and giveaways. Residents will also have the opportunity to interact with the police who patrol their neighborhoods.

Trenton adds its own unique touch to the Night Out by holding a “kickoff” rally the night before the event. The rally will be held Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. at City Hall.

There will be information about Night Out, refreshments, and raffles.
